description

Genuine Trane & American Standard SEN02528 Flame Sensor

Is your furnace lighting for a few seconds and then shutting right back off? You likely need a new flame sensor. The Trane SEN02528 is a critical, genuine OEM safety device designed to monitor the burner assembly for the presence of a flame. If the sensor can't "see" the flame, it signals the control board to shut off the gas valve to prevent gas leaks, ensuring safe operation.

Key Performance Features:

  • Safety Assurance: Verifies continuous flame presence, preventing hazardous gas accumulation and ensuring safe system shutdown if a flameout occurs.
  • Exact OEM Fit: A drop-in replacement designed specifically for Trane and American Standard systems, ensuring ease of installation and guaranteed reliability.
  • Durable Construction: Made with high-quality materials to withstand the extreme heat of the combustion chamber for long-lasting performance.
  • Quick Fix: Often a simple, plug-and-play replacement that minimizes downtime during maintenance calls.

🛠️ HVAC Depot Pro Tip: Troubleshooting the Trane SEN02528 Flame Sensor

Symptom: Furnace ignites but immediately shuts off (short cycles).

This is the most common sign of a flame sensor problem. The control board lights the gas but doesn't "see" the flame signal, so it cuts the gas for safety.

Fix 1: Clean the sensor rod.

Turn off all power and gas to the furnace first. Gently remove the sensor rod and clean the metal rod with fine steel wool or an emery cloth to remove carbon buildup. Never use harsh chemicals or touch the rod with oily hands after cleaning.

Symptom: Furnace displays a specific error code.

While codes vary by model, a "no flame detected" or "ignition lockout" code almost always points to a dirty or faulty sensor.

Fix 2: Check the ground and wiring.

A poor ground connection is a common issue that mimics a bad flame sensor. Ensure all ground wires are tightly secured to a clean, non-painted metal surface near the burner assembly.

Fix 3: Test with a Multimeter.

If cleaning doesn't work, disconnect the wire and set a multimeter to read DC microamps mu A. A healthy sensor should read a consistent current, typically between 2 and 6 microamps, while the flame is lit. If the reading is zero or fluctuates wildly, the sensor is bad and needs replacement.

Still getting a ZERO (0) OHM reading? Your sensor is shot. Don't spend another night in the cold.
