description

Trane Limit Switch (180° Open, 150° Close), SWT01271

The Trane SWT01271 is a mission-critical, genuine OEM safety component designed to serve as the "thermal watchdog" for your gas furnace. This high-limit switch functions as a normally closed circuit that monitors the temperature of the heat exchanger; if internal heat exceeds the safe threshold of 180°F, the switch snaps open to cut power to the gas valve, preventing catastrophic equipment failure or fire. Engineered specifically for Trane and American Standard furnaces, this "brain" of the safety circuit ensures that airflow remains within designed thermal parameters, automatically resetting once temperatures drop back to 150°F to resume normal heating cycles.

Key Features:

• Precision Thermal Airflow Management: Factory-calibrated to snap open at exactly 180°F, ensuring the furnace never operates at temperatures that could crack the heat exchanger.
• Genuine OEM Fitment: Engineered with the exact mounting flange and terminal orientation of part number SWT01271, providing a "plug-and-play" replacement for legacy sensors.
• Rapid Reset Technology: Features a bimetal disc designed to close the circuit at 150°F, fixing "short-cycling" issues caused by worn or drifted aftermarket limit switches.
• Noise & Vibration Resistant: Built with high-grade ceramic and metal housing to eliminate the "rattling" or intermittent connectivity issues found in lower-quality universal switches.
• Integrated Safety Logic: Designed to communicate directly with the furnace control board to trigger specific diagnostic fault codes if an over-temperature event occurs.

🛠️ HVAC Depot Pro Tip: Check the Air Filter First

If your SWT01271 is frequently "tripping" (opening), the switch is often doing its job correctly by reacting to a lack of airflow. Before replacing the limit, check for a dirty air filter, blocked return grilles, or a failing blower motor. A restricted system causes heat to build up rapidly, forcing the limit to open; repeatedly "stressing" a limit switch in this way will eventually cause the internal bimetal disc to fail in the open position.
